WHITNEY HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IS LYING AND TRYING TO SCARE PARENTS WHO OPPOSE A NEW HIGH SCHOOL CHARTER SCHOOL

Below is an email I sent Debra Hawkins, the Whitney High School Principal, regarding her scare tactics and misrepresentation of a new high school charter school. Below is her email to all the families that attend Whitney High School. If you have an opened mind, you will see how she and the RUSD are trying to mislead Rocklin families.

Dear Mrs. Hawkins

I cannot believe you would send the email below to the Rocklin families attending your school.  As a former Rocklin School Board Trustee, I enjoyed working with you when you were the Rocklin High School principal.  I thought you were a professional and always put the needs of ALL students first.  I was obviously wrong.

Your email shows that your professionalism must be questioned.  Your email is just a scare tactic.  You are trying to convince Rocklin families that your school will loose teachers and programs.  I cannot believe you would stoop to lying to your families at WHS.

I thought than an educator's responsibility was to provide the best education for all children?  It is obvious that you mission is not to provide a good education to all children.  You only want to provide a good education to a certain number of children.

Parents should have the right to determine the type of school they want their children to attend.  Who are you to say you know more than the parents?

The supporters of the charter petition have never said a negative thing about your school.  They just want to make the decision on the school that best meets the needs of their school.  You are trying to take that away from them.

For the record, this issue does not affect my family.  At this time I do not expect to send my child to this charter school.  I decided to email you because I respected you as an educator.  You have lost that respect.  To mislead, lie, and scare your parents is unprofessional.

There is a rumor that you are forcing all your teachers to attend this meeting and speak out against the charter.  I am sure you know it is against the teacher's contract to force them to attend this meeting.

Maybe you are just following the marching orders of your Superintend Kevin Brown and his anti-school choice school board members Steve Paul and Todd Lowell.

I have copied the media to let them know how the RUSD is lying and scaring Rocklin families about this charter school.  I am also sending this email to over 7,000 people in Rocklin.

Sincerely,

Mark Klang
Rocklin

Parents and Guardians,

Whitney High School and all our excellent programs are under attack. The Charter School Petition which was unanimously turned down TWICE by your RUSD school board is going before the County School Board seeking approval this Thursday evening. My sources tell me the county is strongly considering voting approval for the charter. If they vote approval, this means that Rocklin or Whitney High School will be forced to house a separate school on one of our campuses. The impact of having students who have no buy in and no connection to either high school housed at our high school would be devastating to academic programs, school activities, facility use, school culture, athletics and more. With the current financial woes of the state, we are already concerned about the loss of revenue to our high school and the impact that will be felt on class size ratios, teachers’ jobs and cuts to other programs. Having the charter on WHS or RHS will result in a financial drain to our schools. We will loose teachers, we will loose programs, we will be hurt in ways too numerous to list in this email.

I am asking you TODAY to email the individuals above, call them if you can, and PLEASE attend the county meeting in Auburn this Thursday.

THURSDAY AT 7:00 PM

Placer County Office of Education

360 Nevada Street, Auburn

Whatever your sentiment about a charter high school, these people need to house their school in a separate location from either high school.

We need your support to protect our campus and all that Whitney has become over the past four years!!!
